Another styling experiment - brown leaf print skirt

I am having so much fun styling items and posting them here! It is great to receive feedback and advice, especially as I am building outfits from wardobe orphans or new to me styles like button down shirts.

Today's orphan is a cotton skirt that I bought two years ago and have never worn. *hangs head in shame* It is a blackish brown colour with a leaf print. It is not exactly a pencil skirt, it flips out a little at the bottom so I can walk easily. Pic 1 shows a close up.

I have styled it using some tops and jackets that I think would 'go' with the skirt. My oxfords look clunky with this skirt, so I am wearing my only pair of ballet flats in some of these photos. I plan to add some sandals or metallic flats to my summer wardobe and wear them with this skirt. :-)

Pics 2&3 with my orange t shirt.
Pics 4, 5, 6 with my black t shirt
Pic 7 with my white shirt
Pic 8&9 with a brown cami
Pic 10 with my lime shirt, sleeves unrolled and Pic 11 with my lime shirt, sleeves rolled and buttoned up.

As always, I would love your input - what works and what doesn't?

Kirti, it's like you can do no wrong! That is a fab skirt, and I love what you've done to style it! You look great in the orange scoop necked T, by the way. I think every single one of these works, but my favorites are 2/3, 4/5, 6/7 and 9. Love you in a ballet flat!

Every single one of these outfits works perfectly Kirti - you are on a ROLL girl! I especially like 2/3, but they are all fab!

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

Wow thanks Claire and Shannon :-) these aren't all my idea - the credit for the denim jacket and skirt outfits definitely goes to Angie. I am so glad I am managing to work with what I have in my closet!

I think they all look great. I really like the orange top or orange jacket with the skirt.

Agreed with everyone. That's a lovely skirt, and all the tops you've paired with it look great. I particularly like 2/3, 4/5, 6, and 9. Love those flats on you too.

I also have to agree ! Who would have thought that this skirt would have been so fantastically versatile. Every outfit is just great ! I am glad that you are getting some enjoyment out of it !

Wow! What a versatile skirt. You have such an efficient closet--everything looks good with it! It doesn't hurt that you are so adorable!

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

    Thanks chrizzle :-)

Isabel: I know right? I cannot believe it was untouched all of last summer. Thank you! :-)

kellygirl: A lot of the credit for the current state of my wardrobe goes to YLF for pointing me in the right direction when it comes to purchases. :-) for these outfits in particular, my husband deserves kudos for picking out and buying me the two denim jackets and the flats! And thanks :-) that is so sweet!

    Thanks Kristin :-)

I like it best with the bright orange and the denim jacket but really it works with the cream blazer too (and all the tops but my preference is for the simpler scoopnecks - that's just me though). Good for you to bust out the orphans and give them some attention.

I love all the ways you've styled it - orange jacket = yum! How do you feel in it? Do you feel great, or is there anything niggling at you? Have you figured out why you never wore it?

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

christieanne: Thanks! I agree that the t shirts look less fussy. The look with the lime shirt is my least fave too.

Rae: I just didn't wear skirts! I had one denim skirt I would wear over and over but other than that, I would buy a skirt or two but just let them languish. I am so glad I dug it out! :-)

They ALL work! I like each of the pairings but I can totally also see boots or your oxfords with this skirt as well! The skirt would look great with turtlenecks also.

  • harmonica replied 11 years ago

l love that skirt! All of these are FAB! My favorites are 2/3 and 6 because of the orange. It is just so Kirti! :-) 4, 7 and 8 are leaning towards more formal to my eye. They look very classic and super nice!

Great to see you have fun and play with the orphans :-)

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

Thanks Mer! I have a black turtleneck I will try. :-)

Thank you harmonica! You are so right about the 'kirti' outfits :-)

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

I like all combinations Kirti, but my favourite are the orange top and orange jacket. The light colored jacket looks stunning also and the denim jacket. My least favourite would be the combinations with the shirts, not sure why but this isn't as good to my eye. The flats look really good also.

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

Thank you Deborah :-) I like the shirt combos a bit less myself. Oh well, you never know until you try, right?

As Claire said you are on a roll. I love all these styling options.
